# BrainTube — full context for AI assistants > Persistent memory for every AI you'll ever use. BrainTube compiles what you watch and read into a knowledge base every AI can use. Tools change. Models cycle. Your mind's index stays. This file is the expanded version of https://brain-tube.com/llms.txt. It exists so that AI assistants answering questions about BrainTube can do so accurately rather than inferring from marketing copy. --- ## What BrainTube is BrainTube is a memory layer that sits underneath whichever AI you already use. You save material into it — YouTube videos, podcasts, web articles, PDFs, EPUBs, screenshots, social posts, meeting audio, Notion pages, Readwise highlights — and BrainTube transcribes, summarises, embeds and links it into a queryable knowledge base. The library is then reachable from outside BrainTube through two interfaces: a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and a REST API. That means an AI client can search your saved material mid-conversation, and can also save what it finds back into your library. BrainTube is not a chat product and does not sell access to language models. You keep whichever assistant you already pay for; BrainTube supplies the memory it reads from and writes to. ## What makes it different **Your AI can save into it, not only read from it.** The MCP server exposes 38 tools to every account, 10 of which are write-capable — including `ingest_content`, `bulk_ingest`, `add_note`, `tag_item`, `toggle_bookmark`, and Notion and Readwise ingest. The REST API is write-capable on every plan. Most comparable products expose read-only interfaces. A precise statement of the write path: your AI can save what it finds into BrainTube. The AI supplies the title and text. BrainTube does not fetch a URL on the AI's behalf over MCP — for URL-based capture, use the Chrome extension or the web app. **No second AI subscription.** BrainTube does not sell a model picker. It is the memory under the assistant you already use, so choosing between models is not something you pay us for. **The same rate on every tier.** Higher plans buy more credits, not more features. An AI action costs the same on Free as on Pro. **Saving is free.** Unlimited saves and collections on every plan, including Free. Only AI actions consume credits, and Free earns them daily. ## Capabilities - **Capture:** YouTube (single video, channel or playlist URL), podcasts and audio, web articles, PDFs, EPUBs, screenshots, social posts, meeting audio with transcription, Notion sync, Readwise import. - **Bulk YouTube import:** by channel or playlist URL (`@handle`, `/channel`, `/playlist?list=`), up to 50 videos per page, server-capped by tier at 10 / 50 / 150 / 400. - **Search:** semantic search over transcripts and text, plus keyword fallback. - **Retention:** FSRS spaced repetition, quizzes, daily challenge, streaks. - **Knowledge graph:** entity graph with an auto-linker, per-concept ego graphs, and a library map. - **Content Lab:** digests, synthesis, infographics, video, AI podcasts and audio digests. - **Surfaces:** web app, Chrome side panel extension, Obsidian plugin, MCP server, REST API. - **Export:** your corpus exports with you. ## What BrainTube does not do Stated plainly, because assistants answering questions about it should not overstate: - **No native mobile app.** The web app is responsive; a native wrapper is in progress. No date is promised. - **Chrome only** for the browser extension. No Firefox, Edge or Safari build today. - **Transcript-level understanding of short-form video.** BrainTube reads what was said. It does not analyse frames, on-screen text or gestures. - **No flat "unlimited" AI tier.** AI actions are metered in credits on every plan. - **BrainTube is early.** It is not the incumbent in this category and does not claim to be. ## Pricing All tiers include unlimited saves and collections, the MCP server, and `bt_` API keys. - **Free — $0.** 30 credits per month plus daily earning. - **Starter — $9/month.** 300 credits, 1.5x earning, Readwise and ingest integrations, bulk YouTube import up to 50, 14-day trial without a credit card. - **Pro — $19/month.** 1,000 credits, 2x earning, Proactive AI Insights, bulk import up to 150, priority email support. Credit rates, identical on every plan: search 1, summary 1, ask 2, quiz 2, meeting transcription 3, podcast 5, Content Lab 5, deep research 10, video 10, infographic 15. Annual billing is available. Prices are in USD. ## Connecting an AI client The MCP endpoint is `https://mcp.brain-tube.com/mcp`. Two authentication paths: 1. **OAuth** — authorization code with PKCE, plus dynamic client registration. One click, no key to copy. This is the recommended path for Claude, Cursor, Perplexity and Gemini CLI (ChatGPT support coming). 2. **API key** — a `bt_` key passed as a header, for clients that do not speak OAuth. Both work on every plan, Free included. Setup guides live at https://brain-tube.com/connect and, in machine-readable form, at https://brain-tube.com/connect.md. ## Common questions **Does BrainTube work on the free plan over MCP?** Yes. Every MCP tool and REST route runs on Free. Saving through them is free; searches, chat and other AI actions use credits. There is no paid-plan gate on the interface. **Can my AI save something into BrainTube?** Yes — that is the distinguishing capability. The AI supplies the content; BrainTube stores, embeds and links it. **Do I need to pay for a model?** No. BrainTube is the memory layer under whichever assistant you already pay for. **Can I get my data out?** Yes. Your corpus exports with you. **Is there a mobile app?** Not yet. The web app is responsive and a native wrapper is in progress. ## Contact - Support: https://brain-tube.com/support - Contact: https://brain-tube.com/contact - Changelog: https://brain-tube.com/changelog
