The Annual Knowledge Audit: Review Everything You Learned This Year

An end-of-year ritual to review your learning, identify gaps, celebrate growth, and set intentional goals for next year using your BrainTube data.

Why Audit Your Learning?

You audit your finances. You review your goals. But when was the last time you reviewed what you actually learned?

An annual knowledge audit reveals:

  • What topics consumed most of your attention
  • Where you made real progress vs. where you stalled
  • Gaps in your knowledge you did not notice
  • Patterns in how and when you learn best

The 4-Step Annual Audit

Step 1: Review Your Numbers (15 minutes)

Open your BrainTube dashboard and review:

  • Total items saved this year
  • Hours of content processed
  • Highlights and notes created
  • Recall cards reviewed
  • Journal entries written

These numbers tell the story of your learning year.

Step 2: Analyze Your Interests (20 minutes)

Look at your interest tracking dashboard:

  • Which topics grew the most?
  • Which topics did you start but abandon?
  • Are there surprise interests you did not expect?
  • Do your learning patterns match your stated goals?

Step 3: Review Your Best Content (30 minutes)

Go through your starred items and most-highlighted content:

  • What were the most impactful videos you watched?
  • Which insights changed how you think?
  • What knowledge have you actually applied?

Read through your journal entries chronologically. You will be amazed at how your thinking evolved.

Step 4: Set Next Year's Learning Goals (20 minutes)

Based on your audit, set 3-5 intentional learning goals:

  • Continue: Topics where you are making progress and want to go deeper
  • Start: New areas you want to explore
  • Stop: Topics that are not serving your goals

Create collections for each goal. Curate initial content. You are starting next year with intention, not impulse.

The Meta-Learning Insight

The most valuable insight from an annual audit is not what you learned — it is how you learn. You will discover:

  • Your optimal learning times
  • Your preferred content formats
  • Your highlight and note-taking patterns
  • Your retention strengths and weaknesses

Use these insights to design a better learning system for next year.

Make It a Tradition

Block 90 minutes in late December. Brew coffee. Open BrainTube. Review your year of learning. It is one of the most rewarding exercises you can do for your intellectual growth.

Your future self will have an incredible record of how your mind evolved, one year at a time.
