The Intentional Content Diet: Consume Less, Learn More
You do not have a content problem. You have a curation problem. Here is how to design an intentional content diet that maximizes learning per minute.

The Content Obesity Epidemic
The average person consumes 11+ hours of media per day. Most of it is forgotten within hours. We are drowning in content but starving for knowledge.
The solution is not consuming more. It is consuming better.
The Content Diet Framework
Audit Your Consumption
Before changing anything, track what you actually consume for one week:
- How many videos do you watch?
- How many do you remember details from?
- How much time is intentional vs. algorithmic?
Most people discover that less than 10% of their consumption is intentional.
Define Your Learning Goals
Choose 3-5 topics you want to learn this quarter:
- Professional development
- Personal interests
- Skills you want to build
Everything you consume should serve one of these goals.
Set Intake Limits
- 3 new videos per day maximum for learning
- 1 deep dive session per week (60-90 minutes)
- 5 minutes daily for spaced repetition review
Quality Over Quantity
Apply the 3-question filter before saving anything:
- Does this serve one of my learning goals?
- Is this the best source on this topic?
- Will I actually engage with this beyond watching?
If any answer is no, skip it.
The 80/20 of Learning Content
Not all content is equal:
- Structured courses (high value, high retention)
- Expert interviews (high value, moderate retention)
- Tutorial walkthroughs (moderate value, depends on practice)
- Entertainment/infotainment (low learning value)
Aim for 80% of your learning time on the first two categories.
