Spaced Repetition: Actually Remember What You Learn

BrainTube built-in spaced repetition system turns your saved content into review prompts so you do not forget what matters.

The Forgetting Problem

Research shows you forget 70% of new information within 48 hours (Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve). That means most of the podcasts, videos, and articles you consume? Gone.

Spaced repetition fixes this by reviewing material at scientifically optimal intervals.

How BrainTube's Spaced Repetition Works

When you save a video or article, BrainTube automatically generates recall prompts — questions based on the content.

Example: You save a video about negotiation. BrainTube generates prompts like:

  • "What is the mirroring technique in negotiation?"
  • "According to the video, what is the most important thing to do before a negotiation?"
  • "What are the three types of No described in the talk?"

The Review Process

  1. Go to the Review section
  2. BrainTube shows you prompts that are due for review
  3. Try to answer from memory
  4. Reveal the answer and rate your confidence: Easy, Good, Hard, or Again
  5. Based on your rating, BrainTube schedules the next review

The algorithm adjusts intervals automatically:

  • Got it right easily? See it again in 7 days
  • Struggled? See it again tomorrow
  • Completely forgot? See it again in a few hours
NOTE

This is the same algorithm (SM-2) used by medical students to memorize thousands of facts. It works.

What Gets Turned into Prompts?

BrainTube creates recall prompts from:

  • Key takeaways in video summaries
  • Highlights you've saved
  • Concepts extracted from transcripts
  • Your own notes (if you want)

Real Example: Learning a Language

A user learning Spanish through YouTube:

  1. Saved 15 Spanish lesson videos
  2. BrainTube generated 120+ recall prompts across all videos
  3. Daily review of 10-15 prompts (takes about 5 minutes)
  4. After 30 days, retention of vocabulary was dramatically higher than passive re-watching

Pro Tips

  • Review daily, even just for 5 minutes — consistency beats volume
  • Mark prompts as "important" to prioritize them
  • The system gets smarter over time as it learns which topics you struggle with
