What actually changed

The marketing changed before the product did. Rescroll’s features page now leads with carousel generation and content repurposing, and the homepage no longer positions around knowledge management at all. Pricing is unchanged from the previous brand: Basic $6, Pro $20 and Ultimate $55, all credit-based, per their pricing page.

The personal-knowledge feature set did not disappear. Library chat, semantic search, automatic organization and visual boards all still exist inside the product. They are simply no longer what the company sells you on — which is a reasonable signal about where the roadmap attention will go next.

What Rescroll genuinely does better

Rescroll analyses short-form video frame by frame — TikToks, Reels and Shorts — reading on-screen text and cuts rather than only the transcript. That is a materially harder problem than transcription, and it is the right foundation for understanding why a piece of content performed. Paired with its one-prompt carousel generator, it is a purpose-built tool for people whose output is social content. BrainTube does none of this and is not trying to.

Where BrainTube is the better fit for knowledge work

  • Read-write MCP server. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can search your library and also save, tag and annotate into it during the same session. Rescroll’s site documents no MCP server or public API.
  • Full export on every plan. JSON, Markdown for Obsidian and Notion, and Anki decks — including on the free tier. Rescroll’s site and docs document no export path for your library.
  • YouTube-first depth. Connect your YouTube account and BrainTube imports and auto-syncs whole playlists, with answers that cite the exact transcript timestamp you can click back to.
  • Spaced repetition built in. Saving is not remembering; BrainTube schedules review of what you actually want to retain.

How these figures were checked

Pricing tiers and feature claims were read directly from Rescroll’s own pricing and features pages on 25 August 2026. Where this page says “none documented,” it means the capability is not described on their public site or documentation — not that it certainly does not exist. Vendors ship fast; if you spot something out of date, tell us and we will correct it with the date attached.

Frequently asked

Is Rescroll the same product as the 'Second Brain' app?
Yes. Rescroll is the rebrand of the app previously marketed as the "Second Brain" app at thesecondbrain.io. The rename and repositioning happened in mid-2026; the underlying product and its pricing tiers (Basic $6, Pro $20, Ultimate $55) carried over unchanged. What changed is the audience the marketing speaks to: content creators rather than personal knowledge management.
Can I export my data out of Rescroll?
Their site and documentation describe no library export path. That is an absence of published information, not proof that export is impossible — verify with their support before you commit an archive you care about to any tool, theirs or ours.
Do I need BrainTube if I use Rescroll for content creation?
They solve different jobs. If you are producing short-form social content, Rescroll's frame-by-frame visual analysis and carousel generation do work BrainTube does not do at all. If you also need a searchable knowledge base your AI assistants can read from and write into, and one you can export, that is BrainTube's half. Plenty of people would reasonably run both.
